FootStamp is manufactured by Kissei Comtec Co., Ltd. and distributed in North America by Amuza, Inc.

Digital footprint analysis without ink

Traditional footprint analysis can require ink, paper, manual tracing, and time-consuming measurements.

FootStamp records paw contact as mice or rats move across a scratch-resistant acrylic walking surface. A high-resolution, high-speed camera captures the walking behavior from below, and the software uses AI-assisted detection to identify paw contact locations and calculate gait parameters such as gait cycle, stride length, paw orientation, and paw-contact area.

Researchers can review and correct detection results when needed, then export data, images, and video for further analysis.

APPLICATIONS

Gait analysis across preclinical research

FootStamp supports studies where changes in locomotion, paw contact, or motor function are important research outcomes.

Movement disorder models

Stroke and motor recovery

Spinal cord and peripheral nerve injury

Osteoarthritis and joint function

Pain and analgesia studies

Neuromuscular disease research

Aging and frailty

Drug efficacy and safety evaluation

Behavioral phenotyping

Designed for an efficient gait analysis workflow

FootStamp combines flexible recording, AI-assisted detection, and organized data management to simplify rodent gait analysis.

02

AI-assisted paw detection

The software detects paw contacts and classifies them as front, rear, left, or right.

Researchers can review, register, or correct individual paw contacts manually when needed.

03

Dark-condition recording

FootStamp can record walking behavior in a dark enclosure. Light enters from the side of the acrylic plate, and paw contact becomes visible when the animal’s paw touches the walking surface, allowing the camera to capture paw placement from below.

04

Searchable data management

Organize and retrieve recordings by animal ID, measurement date, operator, experiment, and custom keywords.

Separate databases can be created for different studies,
research groups, or operators.

WORKFLOW

From recording to export

Record

The animal moves across a transparent acrylic walking surface while a dedicated USB camera records paw contact from below.

Process and detect

FootStamp supports lens-distortion correction, image adjustment, and masking of visual noise such as residue on the walking surface.

AI-assisted software then detects each paw and identifies contact and lift-off timing.

Review and analyze

Review the detected paw contacts, make manual corrections when needed, and calculate temporal, spatial, and paw-contact measurements.

Export

Export calculated results as CSV data, along with still images and video recordings for further analysis and reporting.
