Free Dopamine Analysis Application Note
Levels of dopamine and serotonin in microdialysate can widely vary, and sometimes the level can be as low as the nM level.
In this application note, we introduce a fast and ultra-sensitive method for analyzing dopamine and serotonin levels with improved throughput and resolution time.
Eicom’s Innovative Cell Design
- Ultrasensitive, 30 fg of dopamine
- Graphite electrode often ready to use for < 30 mins after start-up
- No tools to access the working electrode
- Easy to clean or change the working electrode
The key to the sensitivity is the cell design. Eicom relies on a spring-loaded mechanism that always maintains the proper pressure. This structure allows the detector to quickly stabilize after the cell is opened and closed. Another benefit is that the working electrode can easily be accessed with no tools. In this way, the electrode can easily be wiped clean and reinstalled to ensure maximum sensitivity.
The [HTEC-510] has been fantastic, it’s run beautifully, and it’s super easy to use.
I like that all of my settings can be controlled right here on the screen, instead of having to make method files within the software and uploading them to the system – that’s just too much work.
Major Reasons of Ultra-High Sensitivity and Stability of Eicom’s ECD
- Innovative Design of Electrochemical Detector Cell
- System Design with Pulsation Free Pump
- Temperature Regulated System with Both Cooler and Heater
- Optimized Applications for the ECD
All-In-One With A Small Footprint
A common sentiment of our users the first time they see our system is, “Is this a complete HPLC-ECD system?
It is so compact!” The HTEC-510 users are always pleasantly surprised with the small footprint. The HTEC-510 includes:
- An online degasser (only 300 µl volume)
- HPLC pump (no pulsation damper)
- Manual injector
- Column temperature controller (both cooling and heating)
- Electrochemical detector cell
Within a single package the size of a typical desktop computer. The trimmed HPLC-ECD sacrificed nothing in order to combine the latest technology into this concise unit, which has enhanced stability. This system actually has higher sensitivity levels than the preceding models, as well as the compact design. Read on to learn the latest technological advancements within the compact design.
Anatomy of the HTEC-510
No Pulse Damper Required
Normal HPLC pumps are not ideal for electrochemical detection. The EC detector is sensitive enough to detect pulsation from the pump and therefore, a pulse damper is required to reduce this noise. However, the pulse damper itself can cause problems. It requires over 10 mL to replace the inside volume. This volume can contribute to contamination following long periods of storage or shipping, and can be a serious problem for detection. The pulse damper needs to be filled completely with the mobile phase in order for the pressure to stabilize. It takes over 5 minutes. If any old mobile phase remained in the system and entered the new column, the upcoming analysis could be ruined. The presence of the pulse damper in the HPLC system was not ideal. So we removed the damper from the system and adopted a 4 µL replacement volume pump. This small binary pump has a computerized pulsation quenching technology. Once you start the pump, the pressure becomes stable in several seconds, and the piston-stroke speed changes during each stroke in order to quench pulsation. You can see the spindle-shaped baseline noise will converge to a thin flat line within one minute. The dead volume between the piston and the column is less than 1 ml, making cleaning the line quick and easy.
